Guest Speaker Melanie Tidwell Ohio Tobacco Prevention Foundation |
|
30 min. |

Check out the website www.OTPF.org. And www.ohioquits.com. The OTPF have grants that are currently going and have grants available for tobacco treatment and prevention. Gold standard tobacco treatment centers are medically advised. Training to become a certified teacher is coming to Dayton in August this is sponsored by the mayo clinic. This is a 5 day program. Washington DC PACT Meeting |
Doug, Gary, Joe |
30 min |
They attended the meeting in Washington DC in March. Initiatives that they wanted to get accomplished were Medicare part D letting the RT’s go in the home to teach tobacco and Respiratory Therapy. No bill yet for the new initiative. Cardiac pulmonary rehab bill, trying to get that bill passed. Try to get pulmonary rehab reimbursed in hospitals so that it is standardized. The bill to appeal the oxygen cap. Medicare initiative. Congress men and women want to hear from constituents in their own district. This is just the beginning. We need to continue to go back every year. We need to continue to send e-mails to our own politician. Senator Voinovich has helped us in the past. We need a senator to help us get a bill in the senate. We need a sponsor. Senator blanch Lincoln from Arkansas is interested in helping us. |

|
AARC President Meeting |
Ed |
15 min. |
Ed attended a leadership meeting for presidents and president elects. They talked about revenue sharing. We will receive $20 from every person who takes NBRC exams trough the AARC reviews. It just came thru the website link. Program is just like Kettering’s program. But focuses on weak aspects. Registrant’s money will go to state with the registrant’s home address. This is a benefit of one of the contracts we signed with the AARC. Sheryl West talked about how the PACT meeting was great. Membership 41,000 members of the AARC. Tom Lamphere (AARC Membership Chair) used Ohio as an example about how we get members but cannot retain them, We have 1, 800 members. We and about three other states are in that same dilemma. We need to focus on retaining old members. Could we provide a service of filling out the application for them? Student membership is about 20%. Could we have district meetings with the district reps? This will help to show RT’s what we do. Would people come? Can we get everyone e-mail addresses to send them out? Should we create a focus group to find out what we can do to make them join? We need a marketing person to help us with finding out why people don’t join. Can we use our registration for the state meeting to get our focus group? These are a lot of questions that we need to address. Can Chris Logston give us the e-mail addresses of all the people in the state? |
